Insecurity, lack of education, political and economic instability and what not? All of those things are challenges that the members of the Haitian society have to face on a daily basis. It is true that some people find a way to make of it their own little paradise on the detriment of the working and lower class. One thing we can always acknowledge is that “it takes a little bit of everything to make a world” but the gap shouldn’t be so huge that misery and extreme poverty gets to be the normality.
Living in Haiti has become so hard over the years that people are scared of even going to visit but truth is, there is no place like home. There is no greater feeling than landing on this land, looking through the airplane window and seeing what used to be a pearl. Although there are pollution and a lot of dust, opening your lungs and filling it with this air that feels lighter than anywhere else is the best feeling. My point is, as bad and corrupted as Haiti is, it is our home and it is the only place where no one can give you a deadline to leave so it is our job to make it better.
Our purpose is to, not break or erase the difference nor change everything overnight, but to provide an adequate lifestyle to all. Luxury exists for sure but food, water, a place to stay or education should not be so for the simple reason that they are human rights. It is time for Haiti to rise from its ashes and to stand On a Positive Edge.
