As history constantly tends to remind us, Haiti was the richest colony in the French Empire. Haiti is also the first black nation that leads a successful revolution that allowed us to gain our independence, and it had helped a lot of other countries achieve the same, including America in the famous battle of Savannah, Georgia. Haitians are known for their strength, resilience, and bravery; however, a lot of us feel obligated to leave our motherland to seek a better life. We love to label the problems in Haiti but often times we fail to seek solutions. Let us call out the insecurity, the poverty, the corruption to only mention those. Let us face the devil head on so we can be the change that we want to be. We have to face our fear and stop running away from our responsibilities. Let’s ask ourselves what are we doing to make things better for the ones coming after us? Haiti is ours, seeking something better is nothing wrong in itself but not investing ourselves in our country, our community is. It is time for us to take action on what we can do to make Haiti, our Haitian American community better?
As Haitians, our goal is to educate our peers and to promote our H.O.P.E (Haiti On A Positive Edge). Let us come together by rebuilding the country and community from the ashes of insecurity, poverty, and all kinds of illnesses. Our duty is to create a country where our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers live with H.O.P.E in their hearts!
