Born from a nation of fighters, I have only known turmoil, government overthrown and political corruption. I have read about peace and growth in school, but I had never witnessed them in my own country. On the other hand, I can attest to the senseless killing, the ridiculous sound that the protestor shout in the street.
As being raised into a culture of pseudo revolt, I have remained quiet to the 365 carnival days that my country results too. It is without saying that the demands are right, but are they being done properly, or is it so sort of theorist attack that is only to satisfy their pocket as it has always been. Since the early days of this nation, the youth had always been subject to manipulation of those that see and mastered the transmutation of misery to puppetry.
Yes, it is abnormal for money to disappear in the treasury of the state, but does it justify the killing of an 18 years old kid, does it justify the live execution of a police officer. If we find who stole the money, will they be subject to the same faith as those that did nothing but exist on part of the earth? Lady justice states that if one is to be condemned, it would be through a tribunal of his peer. Therefore, to my understanding, those that died in the process of this revolt are killed/executed by their youngling’s peer while the embezzlers will equally be judge by their thief peers and were allowed to go free. What a beautiful dynamic!
As a nation we have a culture, we have a history, so my question to my peer Haitian is it normal that we cannot celebrate “Bataille de Vertière (the greatest battle between the slaves and the masters that give rise to the nation)” while every place else is doing it in the memory of this great nation that knew how to stand up to the man. Is it what we are now a nation that is planning to kill one another on the very days of our independence? We are planning on tarnishing the day that our forefathers stood up and send out a powerful message to the oppressor. What happens to this great day when “soup Joumou” was the essence of it all? What happens to the remembrance of where we are from, and how did we get to where we are now. What happens to the spirit of the “Capois la Mort” that shouted “en avant (let’s go)” while bullets are flying over his head. What happen?
While arresting Toussaint he said: “While overthrowing me they have only felled the trunk of the tree of the freedom, but his branches will sprout, for the roots are deep and numerous.” Is that what the deep roots have produced?
